wah, finally found some time to blog. ok im going to blog about yesterday and today!

yesterday, i went out with my mother and sister to shop. and i bought two t-shirts, one black from baleno and another grey+red one from samuel&kevin. haha. both are $8. so cheap right? haha. my sister also bought two green ones. and we went to cafe cartel to eat again! haha so shuang. i really really like western food can. ahaha. and i hate veg. but wadeva.

today in the morning i got the message from ms lee that we are supposed to wear our SCHOOL UNIFORM to the concert! wad the hell? i already decided wad to wear to this concert on sunday can?!!? ruined my plans! yea cherlene i know u have the exact sentiments. haha. anyway, so since we must wear school uniform, me and jos decided not to go home and bathe le. so we just stayed in school for about 20mins before we walked to the mrt station with cherilynn. den when we reached city hall, it was just slightly before 4pm. and we toured raffles city shopping centre for like 20mins again. haha looked at those nice cards and bears and accessories which i love!!! ahhahah! yea i agree u all should buy me accessories instead. :\

so after that we were looking for some place to have our dinner, or teatime i should say because it was soooooooooo early. i mean, 4 o'clock, is surely not a perfect time to have dinner?! cos the concert start at 6. but anyway, we went to mosburger in the end and i tried the plaindog for the first time lol. everytime i go there i always eat the cheeseburger cos its cheap XD anyway we walked a few more big rounds the shopping centre before we decided to finally walk to the esplanade. ahha. and i really found out that my wrist is damn skinny can?! when i was looking at some watches in the mall, the auntie asked me to try another watch cos its smaller! and then when i tried on that one, it still can slide up and down my wrist! den the auntie was like laughing, like teasing that my wrist is so skinny lah. argh. i cant find any watch dat fits my wrist!

umm anyway so we finally got to the esplanade and into the concert hall. its my first time sitting in the balcony! it was so nice, somehow like im on stage like dat. u noe the seats behind the stage? like above there? yea. i never sat there before. quite a nice view from there. and now im using the old laptop which cant connect to my handphone, so those photos tat i took cant be posted. i'll post them next time. and i tell u, this concert is 741236985632147 times BETTER than the good friday one. partly because of the place we were sitting at, like closer to the stage and can hear and see better. furthermore, its a free concert so im very satisfied(: ok, maybe i did yawn three times, but already very good lor, i can concentrate on listening to the music for 1 hour and 45 mins. they performed two long pieces.

Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 6, by Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840)
After a dramatic opening, which not only has strong operatic overtones but is heavily reminsicent of Rossini himself, the second movement features an expressive minor-key melody which the violin embellishes lavishly before going on to dazzle the audience with miracles of double and triple-stopping and stratospherically high notes, way beyond the expectations of composers for the instrument hitherto, in the exhilarating third movement: proving beyond doubt that, if he wasnt't actually in league with the devil, Paganini must have had unusually elastic joints in his fingers.

In this piece, there is a solo violinist, and he is damn pro. not only his left hand fingers move damn fast, his right hand can also move the bow so swiftly that i can even hear the friction on the strings sometimes. haha. very pei fu. ok next:

Symphony No.2 in E minor, Op.27, by Serfei Rachmaninov (1873-1943)
The first movement begins darkly with the cellos and basses announcing a simple six-note idea which evolves organically throughout the movement. The sense of gradual growth to some long-distant climax is present almost from the start with the violins seeming to fly around in large, graceful arcs while the rest of the orchestra is in a state of continual tension. Of the many wonderful melodies in the movement, one of the most lovely is announced by a solo oboe plaintively crying out from the depths of the orchestra which leads into a theme of rare poise and elegance given out by the violins. before long this, too, begins to strain at the leash. little flashes of color from around the orchestra accompany this theme on its journey until the music reaches the first great climax where the brass blazes out in a moment of sheer spine-tingling splendour.Thunderous outbursts from the percussion set the violins scampering for vover and the music relaxes momentarily before, like sunshine after a storm, it bursts through into a glorious and almost physically exhausting conclusion: one of Rachmaninov's typically abrupt endings - just a single nte from the basses.

The second movement is technically a scherzo (or musical joke). but Rachmaninov was not renowned for his sense of humour and while the music is brisk, energetic and at times almost merry, it never really loses an underlying sombre mood. at one point something akin to a huge explosion erupts from which the violins emerge like a lick of flame carrying a dancing Fugue-subject which rapidly spreads around the orchestra giving a new sense of urgency to a movement full of highly-charged energy.

The third movement is built around the unspeakably lovely melody first heard from the clarinet. seeming to hover on the very brink of eternity it winds its leisurely way through soundscapes of immense beauty before being taken up by th rest of the orchestra. for a time, it seems as if it is going to work itself up into something passionate, but it soon finds its way to a solo violin which passes it on to a flute and eventually back to the clarinet.

For most of its length the fourth movement is exuberantly celebratory as if Rachmaninov realises that, despite the anguishes of the previous movements, he has at last penned a real masterpiece. he does not forget the pain and sorrow we have already experienced and ideas from the earlier movements reappear in a kind of moment of reminiscence before the pure joy of the movement firmly pushes aside such memories to bring ht emovement to a rousing and, again typical of Rachmaninov, abrupt conclusion.

ok, so that's about it. after the concert we found out that our fingers and fingernails were really ugly due to much piano playing haha!! omg. so funny can. and by the time i reached home it was already 8.35, and by the time i sit down at this computer its already 10pm and so its very late so gdnite. lol.

oh ya, by the way, if u all are free, go and read the acp suggestions. there's a recent one which is damn funny(:
